Comment by Doc Embrey on December 7, 2011 at 6:33am What really left me slack-jawed was the 'Le Mans' start to the folding-bike race. When they finally reached their cycles - they then had to unfold them before they could ride off :D
I don't know if there are any 'Nocturnes' here, but around the 25FEB2012 the National Penny Farthing Championships happen at Evandale in Tasmania (only 20-kilometres from Launceston).
I did intend to go down there and, well, just win - but I have been informed that while there are novice races, the main event is a serious race and the competitors have built 'racing high-wheelers'. So maybe I will just head down there for a bit of reconnaissance first. Could be that my Cycling Australia non-racing licence will not be enough there!
I think part of the whole 'build-your-own-penny-farthing' thing is to generate interest and enable events like this to happen in Brisbane, which would be a terrific event to have here and looks like a lot of fun - 'The Nudgee Nocturne', perhaps the first high wheeler criterium in 100-years?
That looked insane. When are you entering?
