Cycling in Brisbane Australia
Good morning All,
I have recently moved to Brisbane after living in Melbourne for the past five years. I commuted there daily and am looking to do the same here. We are currently living in Kedron and I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some guidelines about paths I should consider or a good path into the city from here. I might be working in Newmarket but I might be working in the city so the city would be good to hear about.
Many thanks all and look forward to hearing from anyone.
Cheers,

That's good advice!
I have not taken that bridge before but I will now. It is a pain cycling past the hospital on the footpath. Now all they need is a safer route along Kedron Brook Road and I'll be happy. The drivers are so darn impatient and it's a 50 zone...

A few resources might help you plan a route:
Open Street Map - has many bikeways that Google will never have in place
Nearmap - up-to-date aerial photography of Brisbane so you can see what the paths really look like!
Cloudmade Maps - They use the Open Street Map data (not as updated) but you can plan a journey as a bicycle and it will take into consideration bikeways.
There is a small amount of on-road riding but the ride to the city is mostly away from busy roads. This would be how I'd approach it (see link - I've used pedestrian directions as the cycle one is playing up today...):
This might give you a start.
Big Steve lives out that way and rides the Kedron Brook Bikeway daily. It is not well signed so I'd recommend doing a 'dry run' first! The other thing to note is that when there is a lot of rain (or flooding) the bikeway often floods - nice to know we're treated with respect...
Cheers!
