My current work is at Archerfield airport - I live at Redcliffe so it's a mongrel commute...I have a cunning plan to do at least 1 commute by bike, using our new rail link for the morning direction,…Continue

Chains. (but no whips.)

I've been reading a lot on another (US) site about chain lube and wax.  There's lots of vigorous debate about chain lube but that's not what I'm encouraging here.I'm tempted to try wax, Brisbane's…Continue

I've had a bit to do with the Moreton Bay Regional Council recently with respect to some of their bikeways, specifically with a new bike lane put in along Morris Rd.  For the out of towners (or in…Continue

JamesD replied to StephenW's discussion How was your ride today? Summer 2019
"Completely uneventful ride today.  Just as it should be too.  50 odd km with the symphony of the bike for accompaniment.... Disappointing bit was confirming the new Gateway Motorway bike paths were still closed.  Ahh well."

JamesD replied to David's discussion Who's at fault here?
"My take, for what it's worth, the roadies should not have been travelling at a speed that they could not stop within their sight line/distance. No one is guaranteeing the paths or roads are clear and unobstructed at all times."

"Lomandra is the worst bit, much better now that you really only have to use it for about 400m.  It doesn't have much of a shoulder for the first 200m or so. I'm interested in your route from Salisbury to the Gateway bridge…"

JamesD replied to Dave Broughton's discussion Southside (Salisbury) to Banyo route?
"Gateway to Banyo?   I used to work near the Gateway Bridge and commuted from/to Redcliffe.  I would suggest using the Jim Soorley bikeway to Nudgee, then backtracking a little to Banyo. From the end of the Gateway Bridge, turn right on…"

Oh the shame of it....

Posted on January 11, 2014 at 10:31pm 1 Comment

A week has passed since my triple embarrassment of last Sunday, I’m to the stage I can almost talk about it so perhaps this writing will purge the demons….

Saturday had been a stinker of a day, Sunday was shaping up to be merely warm.  I thought if I was to ride then early in the morning would be best and headed off shortly after the sun bounced over the horizon.  I do a 30k ride to collect the paper, using a combination of road and path for a generally stress free cycle.  This was no…

Idle thoughts on the turbo

Posted on October 29, 2013 at 9:56pm 8 Comments

I was whiling away some time on the indoor turbo this afternoon, after all the storms were rolling through and I wasn't about to head out in that!  I might get the inside of the mudguards dirty.....  Any way, sitting there  grinding  out the watts it occurred to me that the front of the bike was moving about rather a lot, and although I'd like to claim I was flexing the frame I fear the laughter would linger far longer that the storms.

Now on the 'bent I tend to just sit there like a…

A Tale of Tyres

Posted on March 31, 2013 at 9:56pm 1 Comment

I ride a 26" wheel recumbent, from factory it was fitted with Maxxis 26x1 Detonator tyres.  Hugging the outside of Mavic rims with bladed spokes they certainly looked the business.  They seemed to roll OK and never gave me a problem with grip.  Probably not a tough as they could be though, on the March recumbent ride the back tyre took a stone right through the tread, reinforcing plies and tube - naturally.  Fixed on the day with a sleeve but not really confidence…

A Journey to the Dark Side Pt 3

Posted on March 31, 2013 at 8:55pm 1 Comment

It's now early 2011....

It’s been some weeks now since I bought a Performer Goal 26X, about time to give some feedback to the forumites regarding the experience.  When ordering I ticked all the option boxes so received a large cardboard box with the bike, plus carry rack, panniers, mudguards, lights, flag, computer and mirror – the theory being that the bike would be usable for the local shopping trips and so on.  All items survived the trip from Taiwan unscathed, so the assembly…

Thanks James.. I am just keeping an eye now, no matter my desire my budget wont accept another bike just yet :D. As soon as that changes I will be on the look and maybe try and hook up with a group ride! I am thinking a tadpole trike of some form, but, we will see :D
