Guerrilla Infrastructure & Maintenance

Are littered glass bottles frustrating and straying dead branches a hindrance? Don't mind occasionally stopping to fix the little problems before they return to bite? Identified a spot deserving better attention beyond the reach of typical bureaucracy?

Until councils and governments develop better sense, some communities could do with a little guerrilla improvement!

[2012-01-22] Outcome: Success! - Next project, TBD (ideas and input welcome).

Perhaps something like the Richlands path at Carole Park or on a smaller scale, somebody good with signs could improve the narrow Oxley's/Drift on the Bicentennial Bikeway? Keep in mind though that Stage 3 of the Bicentennial Bikeway upgrade is supposedly starting soon...

Urban Repair Squad - Centenary Bikeway

January 22, 2012 from 8am.

Location: Western Freeway Bikeway (South of Witton Road), here.

Event Description:

Try to fix / limit the risk of the drop between the concrete  and the ground for the bike path south of Witton Rd.

Has been one serious accident (see http://www.brisbanecyclist.com/forum/topics/incident-near-western-freeway) there recently.

Best bet is probably move soil from further away to reduce the edge of the path (make it more of a ramp).

Bring whatever you can - even if you don't/can't bring a shovel there is always something else that people may need. Things I can think of are:

  • Shovel
  • Garden Gloves (to stop the blisters)
  • Hat/Sunscreen (be sunsafe!)
  • Spray paint (to mark the edge of the concrete if we cant fill it)
  • Cool drinks (eg: cordial)

Afterwards most likely ride / go somewhere afterwards for a Coffee.

I went to have a look at this one today - very well done. :)

Was also pleased to see the pedal monorail back in action once more, brighter than ever!
