St Lucia Bikeway
So apparently construction of the St Lucia Bikeway along the esplanade is finally complete and officially opened on Saturday morning, 8th October - although I'm not sure whether the storms affected the opening ceremony.
Has anyone had a chance to visit yet?

Yep - it's very nice. I rode it a few weeks ago before it was officially open (but complete). Just watch the driveways at the University Colleges... they're not used to looking out for cyclists (let alone pedestrians...)
The old part near the golf course is littered with sticks & leaves but if taken at a reasonable pace (ie. not racing) it is no problem.
It is always nice to not have to worry about traffic when cycling up steep hills.

So I went to inspect it today after a haircut (I only mention the haircut as it always seems to coincide with an extended bike glide - must be the cooling factor; ah it would be even nicer without a helmet if only I could afford the risk of fines mandatory donations to the government!).
I've seen the St Lucia Links end, and the colleges end before so wasn't actually expecting a lot. Well, I was surprised - it was indeed very lovely; magnificent even, with idyllic views of the river. Previously, that section didn't even have a footpath and needed a bit of racing through to take advantage of the rolling hills for car avoidance. It was also very pleasing to see some walkers (and foot-commuting students) already making good use of it.
Incredible what a little bit of path-linking can do. I'll certainly visit that part more regularly now - the local residents who have been campaigning years for a path will appreciate it all the more with an increase in community-minded people being out and about, helping keep an eye on things.
I just wish those "Cost: $x million" signs weren't so blatant, or alternatively, installed for every street with on-street parking or otherwise. We know some people aren't very good at health, mathematics and economics; why make it worse?
