"As part of the Legacy Way Tunnel project we'll be reviewing the existing pedestrian and cyclist paths and facilities," he said.
Am I being too cynical thinking this was a an off the cuff comment to placate cyclists reading this story. Since legacy way started work almost 5 months ago any designs for intersection changes would be done and locked in?
Permalink Reply by Mike Bentley on January 17, 2012 at 11:49am Hi Shaun .. Yes I agree you would think so ... There has been a lot of road makings made at the crossing though . . I mentioned it a while back in another post somewhere. Maybe they do have something in the pipeline for this crossing.
Mike
I also reckon they have something in the pipeline. Have you noticed also on the bikeway on the city side there are a lot of pink ribbons on the fence and wooden posts? Are these markers of some description I wonder?
How are you Mike? Missing the bike or enjoying the rest?
Permalink Reply by Mike Bentley on January 17, 2012 at 12:08pm Hi George .. Yes I mentioned those pink markers a while back . . They must be there for some purpose you would think?
I am getting better. I'm at home and resting of course. The swelling has gone down a lot and I can feel the strength coming back into my leg. Pain levels are reducing too. I am doing light lifting exercises with the leg to help get it back in shape. I have an appointment tommorow with Dr Holt to see how things are going.
My wife has been fantastic taking care of me and I have plenty of books and access to movies/internet etc to keep my mind occupied.
If I had a choice between this kind of rest or riding my bike there is only 1 answer of course and that is riding the bike. :)

Permalink Reply by Chris Cox on January 17, 2012 at 12:10pm Nice comment on the article, Mike. Unlike the dickhead "Cadel" that seems to think a cyclist is going to ride at Cadel Evans speed across a pedestrian crossing without looking. It's a stupid law and, IMO, more urgent to change than the MHL.

Permalink Reply by Mike Bentley on January 18, 2012 at 10:50am Looks like we have the answer to the question of what is happening at the Moggil Road/Western Freeway Intersection .... From Todays Courier Mail, I have bolded the interesting sentence ...
The Moggill Rd-Western Freeway intersection is a step closer to a $20.5 million upgrade with Brisbane City Council beginning ground investigations.
Survey work is under way and work is anticipated to begin later this year, Councillor Julian Simmonds (Walter Taylor) said.
"The upgrade will improve safety and traffic flow for motorists at one of Brisbane's busiest intersections," Cr Simmonds said.
He said the works were likely to involve widening and lengthening the Western Freeway off-ramps, and providing additional turning lanes on the east-west lanes of Moggill Rd to prevent traffic backlogs.
"It is anticipated the upgrade will also enhance pedestrian and cyclist connectivity," he said.
"Specifically, I have written to the design team urging them to incorporate a safe crossing in the slip lanes for cyclists if at all possible."
The upgrade has been packaged with Legacy Way tunnel works to save an estimated $30m, with the upgrade's final design is expected mid-year.

She's given them a convenient out. "Sorry, not possible". Bam. "Oh well, I tried," she says.
Permalink Reply by Shaun Moran on January 18, 2012 at 11:03am Isn't the default answer to having a safe crossing by putting in traffic lights?
(I must be getting grumpier in as I get older :-)
