Cycling in Brisbane Australia
Had a funny incident this morning.
There were three of us doing the ride from Bulimba to Wynnum. Along the esplanade at Wynnum we'd stopped for John to get a drink and we were passed by a small bunch of four triatheletes. We caught them a few minutes after we got going, and they had split up a bit with two riders dropped. We passed the first, then the second and sat in behind the other two.
John decided to pass the front two, they weren't going very fast, maybe 30 - 32km/h and we didn't want to be in the middle of their group. So we pulled out and passed the front two.
The woman didn't seem to like this very much because the next thing we knew she was out of the saddle and yelling "I'm right on your arse and I'm TT'ing! WOOOOOOOOOOO" and rode in between us at TT pace (umm errr, about 34km/h).
As we were getting over the surprise of that she called out "DOGS!", someone's staffies had gotten out and were wandering on the road. They kept going and I stopped to shepherd them off the road and stopped them from being run over (no tags or phone numbers unfortunately).
A few minutes later we again passed their stragglers going up the hill at the end of Whites road. She was waiting at the top (Time Trial had finished obviously). I think she felt somewhat silly because she called out "Sorry for yelling back there fellas".
"No problem" I said, "We've been laughing ever since... WOOOOOOOOOOOO"
People..... funny

Very nice ride, enjoyed it and the coffee banter afterwards, look forward to doing it again...nice work with the dogs
Hilarious!
I didn't know the Commuter Cup had a TT stage.

I think they may have been upset because they aren't supposed to draft anyone... but who's to say. :p
Permalink Reply by Raymond on April 12, 2012 at 2:32am This might risk spoiling a good story but I have to ask if the WOOOOOOOOOOOO was one of elation (like they had just won a prize of free slipstreaming), or more a "WHOOOOAH" ("look out!")?
Permalink Reply by DamianM on April 12, 2012 at 9:21am It was more like "WOOO WOOOO I'm a TRAIN YEAH!"
Permalink Reply by Raymond on April 12, 2012 at 2:46pm Ok maybe she meant that she was in a Mark Cavendish lead out train. Would explain the stopping at the top of the hill. Or possibly a case of oxygen debt? :D
Permalink Reply by Paul Martin on April 12, 2012 at 6:53am More to the point, why would you 'TT' on an open public road? Odd... That's what Criterium Tracks are for - no lights, no potholes, no cars... Sounds like they don't really know what a time trial is if they're going that slowly. Best keep a wide berth, particularly if they're going to sit on their tribars. It drives me crazy when I see someone on their tribars behind me... I usually slow down and force them to pass under 'controlled conditions'.
BTW Damian, how fast can you run & swim? ;-P
Permalink Reply by DamianM on April 12, 2012 at 9:21am I don't think she was really TT'ing :) Just trying to prove a point.
As for my running and swimming, can't do either of those to save myself :) I'm not pretending otherwise.

Permalink Reply by Big Steve on April 13, 2012 at 7:30pm I'm afraid the sharks would think I was a giant seal when swimming and eat me. :)
