Cycling in Brisbane Australia

My friends and I are looking to start a bidniss out Coominya way. I want to stay true to my bike-to-work ways and have looked up how to get to Coominya by rail and rail-bus. I need another bike to get me to the location. I can't take my current bike because I can't take it on a bus.

I'm looking at getting a folding bike specifically for this venture. I know that sometimes I'll have to take the car--it's a farm stay for dogs--but for days and weekends when I don't bring out my boys, I would like to get there by bike.

The property backs onto the railtrail that leaves from or Fernvale. As I get comfy on the bike, I'd like to change where I get off the bus.

What have you heard about various brands? I'd need a bike that can ride on crushed granite. I'm not too fussed about weight, but want something that I can get onto a bus (so not too bulky once folded).

I'm also looking to ask around Coominya way for people to let me keep a junky-but-functional bike chained up, but I like the idea of a folding bike so that I always can take a bike with me wherever I go.

The Dahon Bullhead looks like it might do the trick.

I'm no folding bike expert though.

My wife and I did a MTBO event on Sunday and one chap used a Airnimal Rhino for the event. He was using it to see how capable it was for use on the dirt. For a small wheeled machine he said it did a pretty good job. The one he had may be more than you want. He's a link to what he was riding: http://www.airnimal.eu/Rhino/Black.php

i have a few months to obsess. those look nice. there is something to be said about going big if i'm going to use this a lot. i'll check out the brisbane valley rail trail before i buy a folding bike. i hope that the sections i need (fernvale to lowood, lowood to coominya) will be re-opened by september.

at least i have a reason to shop for a new--not a replacement--bike.

Epic Cycles in Paddington had a good range of folding bikes last time I looked in there.  It's probably worth talking to them.
Epic in brisbane is the only place you can get a brompton

I use a folding bike , BENDR,. I bought it from ALDI 2 years ago and have put on about 4500 km. I ride it every day and we take it camping/travelling with us where ever we go. I have worn the first set of tyres but other than that the bike has caused me no trouble at all. and it only cost $ 149.00

Hi...I have a brompton folder and it is prob one of the best to use on buses as it folds and fits in the luggage racks. My previous folder..dahon..was too bulky in comparison..and would not fit in some luggage racks...(some bus drivers insist that it is placed in rack and not put where prams go!!)..something to be aware of.
Having said that, I used my old dahon on dirt tracks to ride to byron blues fest and trust me it's muddy, bumpy..etc but was.no prob.however, without a doubt, I would consider no alternative than a brompton...and I would have no hesitation to take it on rail trails
