Brisbane Cyclist

Cycling in Brisbane Australia

Might as well have my own thread :P

The positive: somehow I managed to beat my best time into work by 2 minutes...I guess I was lucky with stops (or lack thereof).

The negative: Again, Sylvan Road. The intersection with Croydon St. Huge big group waiting at the lights, which isn't unusual. But as the lights changed and we'd all just made it across the intersection, a guy on what looked like a mountain bike (green t-shirt for those of you playing at home) decides to swing out wide of the group and pass everyone - swerving in front of a car who not surprisingly blew his horn. Cyclist turned around, gave the driver a death stare and a gesture. FFS mate, you were in the wrong. It's people like that who antagonise drivers and worsen the cyclist-motorist rivalry.

Disappointing to see.

BTW... as I went past I yelled out that my name was Terry and I was sorry... :-P

(just kidding)

Did I mention I now have a black step-through with rod brakes?  Paul I'll PM you a list of pubs you now need to avoid ....

Nice!

...and why do I have to avoid pubs? Don't tell me the macho patrons can't handle seeing a man on such a sensible bike? Oh dear...

I was looking longingly at Gazelle bikes last night and was thinking a step through made a lot of sense. No doubt I'd get even more aggressive "you don't deserve to share my bikeway" passing moves than I get from Armstrong-wannabes now on my cheapo 99 bikes brand bike with my non-cycling clothing :P

Imagine, a bloke on a step through bike without a bike jersey and knicks? ;-)

Nah.

I get the most respect on that bike - from motorists and cyclists but particularly, pedestrians - compared to other bikes. I'm mindful of my position and stay out of the way as I only cruise at 20km/h.

No point getting sweaty!

The step-through frame and flat pedals means that I can get rolling faster than most... ;)

uhoh, I better tell people I got rid of the stepthru with the basket on the back....

but then I used to draft them if they passed me hehehe

until passing them on the next hill.....

it was great training !!

That's Ok, I was passed by 5 fat roadies, while I was going uphill at 8kph,

"Gooday Paul, slummin' it today?"

(just kidding as well, I was doing 12kph!)

LOL :-D

WOW! Was that a cold fish ?

She was cold... ice cold. Middle-aged, brown/blonde hair, tanned/freckled and while probably not fat, looked very stocky with big calves, silver ring on left middle finger, no other jewellery, pink swimming cap and blue & yellow flippers which she brought in her own blue backpack.

Lovely human.

I can't quite tell if it is a piss-take or if it is serious. The scary thing is that it would appeal to *both* audiences!
