Cycling in Brisbane Australia
Hi everyone! Brisbane streets are so awesome to ride during festive season like this. As a result, I find myself riding more in the past few days. I see more cyclists on the road too. And then I started thinking... how many rides a recumbent here in Brisbane?
I used to ride a Greenspeed trike for a tour and have recently acquired a Bacchetta high-racer bike. There's been a steep learning curve but I've been loving it so far and started thinking of joining social rides. Based on personal experience, the reaction from DF riders varies a lot seeing a recumbent and I have a feeling they would prefer not to have a recumbent in their bunch rides.
That brings to my question... is there a regular social ride for human powered vehicles in Brisbane? If not, would anyone be interested to form a group? I'm pretty sure there's more than a handful of recumbenteers in Brisbane, and at least some of them are interested in riding in a group?

I'm not aware of any regular recumbent rides in Brisbane but I'd be keen to be involved. We could also meet up at one of the Criterium Tracks to do some laps - that would be good fun too :)

That's a great idea! The only criterium I've ridden is the Nundah one. The other one I read but never tried is Murarrie. If you've ridden both, which would you recommend?

It's just down the road from me. Count me in as long as I'm not doing something silly like working.

Permalink Reply by Melvyn Yap on December 28, 2011 at 8:43am That's great! Let's decide on a date. I was thinking of this weekend, but whether forecast says 60-70% chance of shower. Anyone have a preferred date? For me, anytime this week is good but next week onwards I'm restricted to weekends.
Permalink Reply by Paul Martin on December 28, 2011 at 1:02pm I'm around this Saturday, but not Sunday. I'm also free on the Monday->Wednesday and the following weekend. :)

According to the Cycling Queensland site, nothing is booked at the Nudgee Crit this Saturday so it looks like we're good to go. If the weather stays like this, how about a 7am meet? We could shoot up to Nundah afterwards for a coffee if people have time.
Of course, if it is bucketing down, I'm staying home.
Permalink Reply by Melvyn Yap on December 29, 2011 at 12:42pm So nice to meet you guys this morning. Riding in a group forces me to push harder which felt good. I promised myself to train up more so that none of you will have to stop and wait for me ;)
7am this Saturday sounds good to me. I'm in for the track ride and Nundah coffee, provided its not pouring of course. Anyone who sees this feel free to join, it's not just for recumbents, it's an HPV ride :)

I'll be there on Saturday... and while I can still show up if it is raining, I suspect I'll be alone! We can do a weather check tomorrow.
