Cycling in Brisbane Australia
Well I'm exhausted.
Saturday morning was the Two Wheels to Work event, I rode in to the city and met a bunch of people including Big Steve (who really can't be called Big anymore), Ian Lister, and caught up with Paul Martin (who didn't stop answering questions about the Mango the entire time).
It was a good event, and a great initiative - Well done Angie and co!
First up this morning was the Lazy Sunday Cycle, where we took the kids on the 6km route with a group of 18 riders for a fun cruise along the northside of the river. While waiting for that to begin we saw lots of riders on the last section of the Ride For Life. As soon as we got back to Bretts Wharf we jumped on the Ferry home and I swapped bikes and headed over to Holland Park for the Pushies Galore swap meet. Sam's written about that here, it was a great afternoon out and fantastic to finally meet Gavin.
I spent the rest of the afternoon wrestling the kids in the swimming pool, so I'm wrecked now! Must be bed time.
How was everyone else's weekend ?

My weekend involved no cycling at all. Instead I moved and spread 2 tonnes of soil in preparation for laying turf in our backyard next weekend. Also my usual tending to the vegetable garden and even an attempt to clean the gutters (I'm terrible on ladders, I freak out.
Absolutely stuffed this morning.
Friend of mine in Sydney took part in the MS ride to Wollongong. He's not that big a cyclist so to do 90km was a huge effort...and he's feeling it today! LOL. Said the first 60km was fine, but the last 30 killed him. He's recovering from his second ACL reconstruction in a year too.
Permalink Reply by Shaun Moran on November 7, 2011 at 11:44am After my weekend long run on Sunday morning I went out for an easy 20k bike ride with the wife around Wacol. Came around a bend in the path only to see a hare running for its life away from us. I tried to catch it but the little guy was too quick for me.
Did have the camera running but all you can see is a small dot running beside the path.
Permalink Reply by Raymond on November 7, 2011 at 2:27pm Lazy Sunday Cycle was great - I believe the biggest turnout since the first one!
Later in the afternoon, headed out to Forest Lake and Carole Park, and did a little chalking on the paths roughly pointing directions to Forest Lake - quickly realised that one piece of cheap chalk disintegrates quickly and snaps, but hopefully it will give others some ideas!
I'm intending to get some more regular longer rides (in time, not distance!) in again so I can head to Redcliffe proper, as well as revisits to Mt Gravatt lookout and Mt Coot-tha. With a mirror now, it should be much easier than the first time for each (which were all fantastic). In my opinion, they really do add a whole new perspective to bike gliding here - the energy saved from needing to frequently be like Andy "Torticollis" Schleck is remarkable.
Permalink Reply by Paul Stockwell on November 7, 2011 at 2:42pm Fitted up a pair of new bottle cages in preparation for summer, and a spy mirror on to the roadie. I couldn't get the two old cages in properly with my pump bracket behind the back one as they were quite elevated. (Not sure if it was a factor, but 51cm frames aren't very big, either :) ).
Otherwise I had to put together a trampoline for the eldest, who then insisted I either watch or jump on it with her!

So much time in the pool this weekend with the little ones. I did manage to work up an excuse to get a very short ride on my new fake fixie in preparation for it's commuting duties this week.
